Für die kollektive Performance «Houseplants on Tour» (2014-ongoing) wird die Öffentlichkeit eingeladen, eine Pflanze aus ihrem Zuhause oder eine vom Künstler zur Verfügung gestellte Pflanze auf einen 1-stündigen Spaziergang durch die Stadt mitzunehmen. Während der gesamten Performance diskutieren und reflektieren die Teilnehmenden über ihre Beziehung zu der Pflanze, die sie tragen, und den anderen Pflanzen, die sie im öffentlichen Raum sehen.

Tour 2: So, 4.9., 14 Uhr, Startpunkt: Wettsteinplatz, beim Bücherschrank. Endpunkt: «fleuri», beim Kunstmuseum Basel

«Houseplants on Tour» is a collective performance in which participants are invited to take a plant from their home on walk through the city. Most houseplants are rarely exposed to exterior conditions, much less public spaces, this work offers an opportunity for the plant and its owner to come together in an uncommon scenario. Are potted plants meant to move? Are we forming symbiotic relations? Does my plant love me back?

Throughout the performance, participants discuss and reflect upon their relation to their plant and the other plants they see in public space. The plant-walk not only acts as a common space where botanical conversations can take place; it also creates a disruption in the urban landscape by introducing elements that are reserved for private/domestic spaces.

«Houseplants on Tour» has been performed in different cities like Vancouver, San Jose, Panama City, Zurich and Budapest. Each iteration adapts to the circumstances and urban context; each tour takes a route through the city visiting sites that can add to our botanical conversation. In previous editions we have walked through city parks, botanical gardens, museums, markets, fairs and farms. For Kunsttage Basel 2022 we will also visit several sites of botanical importance to the city.
